I don't know which is more of a surprise -- but both are good news!
All of this tumbled forth before I could even ask Kerry the only question I had in mind: What was he thankful for on this day?
“Well,” he sighed, “I’m thankful for life itself. A few weeks ago, I was standing with some college buddies in Arlington National Cemetery at the grave of a dear friend who died in Vietnam.
“To stand there is to become thankful for each and every day I’ve had since the war.
“I’m thankful for my first grandson, who will be born this coming April. I’m thankful for our country and all the gifts it continues to bestow on us. We are indeed a blessed nation.
“I’m thankful for the opportunity to still be in the fight and rediscover the promise of the freedoms we have fought and sacrificed to uphold.”
