I'm not really an experienced photog but have hung around long enough at this forum and am involved in other creative outlets to offer you this opinion;
If you start with a point and shoot (which is what I have)it almost doesn't matter which brand because it's a point and shoot! the camera does a great deal of the work for us. What we have to learn is composition,lighting,cropping and the like. Once you've taken about 10 thousand snaps then you'll be ready for a DSLR. At that point you could go here -

I'm interested in photography because its creative, fun, gets me outside and has opened up a whole new world. I'm taking photos to express myself, to myself. I'm all digital.
