i think given the deep partisan divide these days, its probably politically ok for the admin to go ahead with this move. They know that they will not be winning over Fox's viewership anyway, so why bother? focus on the hearts and minds that are favourable or can actually be influenced.

while the media will hyperventilate, and may run against the WH for a while, at the end of the day, people want access to the administration, and this will die down. However the seed has been firmly planted in people's minds that Fox has an agenda.
