There are contracts and then there are contracts. I had wondered if she managed a 'pay or play' clause or if News Corp. chose to protect themselves from her mavericky ways in any real and legally binding way. If they pay her for what is not done, they will also have her contractually obligated to not do some other TV during that time. When milking a short time fame, that can be a real problem.
