The race for Illinois governor is about to grow.
Scott Lee Cohen is expected to announce his bid as an independent candidate this week.
The Chicago Tribune reports Cohen met with Democratic Party chairman Mike Madigan earlier this month to discuss his intentions.
Cohen won the Democratic primary for lieutenant governor back in February but resigned after allegations from his past surfaced.
There are currently three other candidates in the race: Democratic incumbent Pat Quinn, Republican Bill Brady and Green Party candidate Rich Whitney.
