September 11, 1973.
Next Thursday marks another significant date in history -- the day when a democratically elected left-wing government in Chile was brutally overthrown by a right-wing military coup. Salvador Allende was murdered in the coup, which saw the infamous Augusto Pinochet installed and the start of a brutal regime in the South American country. Many other people were murdered, or fled the country.

Richard Nixon, Henry Kissinger and the CIA also had a hand in bringing about this ouster of a man legally elected by the people of his country. I think that the difference between then and now is that * and his crew of thugs openly go into a company and effect regime change.

1. Was it really September 11th?
How ironic! All Rethug Prez have screwed around in Latin America mainly because they know they can--it never gets reported here, and even when it doesn, 75%-90% of the people don't read about it anyway.

Begin, Sadat, and Carter sign Camp David peace accords. (or so I thought) according to this timeline it was September 17. I thought that was the reason al Qaeda picked that date to strike but obviously I was wrong. Anyone else hear this before?

3. My Latin American studies professor is an expert about these things

he's converted many of my right-leaning classmates into anti-Reagan/Nixon/Bush, centrists or liberals. At the least in terms of foreign policy.

Had I been alive/old enough back(50's - 80's) then I would have probably been a cold-warrior supporter, but not a hard-liner. A JFK dem basically
