I've decided to back Clark
Well, after researching everything I could find about Clark, and watching him on TV, I've decided to back him. I'm operating on the assumption that he'll get into the race. If he doesn't, I'll have to pick between Dean and Kerry. But for now, I'm a Clarkie.

Why?

Because after watching him on the Maher show, I'm convinced that, more than any of the other candidates, Clark understands exactly what is at stake in 2004: the Constitution of the United States of America, and the future of the Republic. The other candidates seem to have policy disagreements with Bush...which of course we all do. But Clark seems to understand that Bush isn't just dangerous because of his domestic and foreign policy...he is dangerous because of what he presents HISTORICALLY. Bush and his minions are a threat to the very fabric of what makes this a great nation, and I think Clark sees that and can articulate it more clearly than the others.

So, count me in on the Clark bandwagon.

Glad to be here.

As soon as he gets in, I'll send him some $$$.

I've already sent a "please run" message through one of the sites.

It's great to have you, FDRLincoln! And your reasoning for supporting him is steady, sound, and patriotic.

By the way, I prefer "ClarkBars" to "Clarkies," but that's just me...

Edited to add: It's important to stress that if Clark doesn't run, I remain undecided, but will enthusiastically throw my blood, sweat, tears and hard-earned dollars at the Democratic nominee!

37. I became more confident he'll run when he said this:
... on Maher last night, from the transcript:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=284779&mesg_id=287760&page=

Clark: A lot of people have said, what are you interested in? Why would you even consider running? Isn't it just about Iraq? It really isn't. Iraq is part of it, I think our foreign policy has serious problems, but I think the economy and the way the administration has dealt with the economy has serious problems. But more fundamental than that, it's about what kind of country we want to live in. I think this nation wants an open, transparent government. I think it likes the two-party system. I think it likes to hear reasoned dialogue, not labeling, name-calling, hateful politics. I think 2004 is the election the voters have to put that back in.

Sounds like a candidate to me,
Jennifer

Edited on Sat Sep-06-03 09:19 PM by snyttri
He could make the Party stronger and really juice up the debates.

As LBJ was the Southerner and former segregationist who succeeded in civil rights legislation, Clark could come out of the military to kill much of the corruption in defense spending.

Independent journalists sometimes say, in response to the claim that no one could forsee what would happen in Iraq, that Clark did.

and Iraq. I'm sure he would also hold them accountable for the election theft too. Wesley is telegraphing something to us. I want my constitution back. Step one to accomplishing that is to hold the bushies accountable. They should not be allowed to get away with murder and treason. Only my two guys, Graham and Clark have even hinted that they would hold the bushies accountable.

On the policy issues, the Democratic platform is the Democratic platform. That doesn't change much between any of the candidates. We need a healer and a leader. We need someone to put a stop to the bullshit that the rethuglicans have inflicted upon us for the past couple of decades.

13. Me too
Started off with Dean - then tipped to Kerry - now will be heartbroken if Clark does not join the fray. The guy is almost too good to be true for the situation we now are in thanks to Flyboy and his thugs.

Clark is smart, experienced and progressive enough for me, but still centrist enough to grab the middle swing votes. We cannot afford another close election - if it's close, it will be stolen again. We need a decisive trouncing of these troglodytes.

14. Clark in 04
It seems to me that Wesley Clark has a deep understanding of the threat that Bush and this administration pose to the United States. Bush and his cabal ARE THE FIFTH COLUMN and I think Clark sees this. He presents himself as a thinker and this is why I am backing him. Beyond the polish, the telegenic good looks, and the correct political temperment, Clark is cerebral. Cerebral like Clinton, but disciplined like Clinton wasn't. This man has the makings of a great president and after the mess that Bush is going to leave behind I don't think that the republicans in the House and Senate are going to have the capital to fight him as he restores America to the fine nation it once was and the great nation it can become.

How do you get these graphics on the side of your comments? (sorry computer idiot here) I would like to have a picture of Clark on my messages.

And might I add...that right this minute...this cyber second...as you read this, Iraqis and Americans are fighting and dying in a place where the streets and sands soak up their blood. Clark may not have the answer, but if one exists those disparate citizens of our world need for us to give them their best chance of finding it, Clark.

32. I'm having trouble deciding
If Clark joins, then I have to decide between Dean/Kerry/Clark

(It is nice having so many talented and stong candidates)

While Kucinich's views may line up with mine the most and I really like him as a person, I don't think he has a chance to beat Bush. I really think the above trio are the only ones who can win.

Personally, I think Clark would have the best chance to win because of his strong military background and business skills. Plus, he looks good on TV and is able to get his message across quickly (two skills needed to win an election these days).

33. Clark may be entering the race at the optimum time,
He has generated intense interest among activists without spending a dime. He may get magazine covers and the full media treatment at the time Americans are beginning to pay attention to politics.

The putative leader is at 10-12% in national polls. Activists are already sick of most of the candidates who have been running for a year. All polls show Dems want someone knew in the race.

Clark's personal qualities impress people the more they see him. Every day it looks more like the issues in which Clark has unique expertise may decide the election.

Without being in the race Clark has been able to inspire DU activists by calling himself a liberal in contrast to the moderate or centrist label Dems usually attach to themselves, while at the same time generating strong interest among veterans and independents who would not normally consider supporting a liberal.

Dean has built a great campaign by running early and aggressively, firing up the base, getting many small contributions and attracting fresh activists. The draft Clark "delayed" campaign seems to be generating a very different, but still powerful, under the radar momentum.

Though he is getting a later start than the other candidates, it would not be surprising if just as the establishment candidates have come to envy Dean's campaign, they also come to envy Clark's unorthodox "late" entry into the race and the momentum it may give to move near the top of the field all of a sudden.

The first time I've heard him speak the issues and I was impressed. My mom already told me she's going to vote for him, even if he doesn't run she's going to write his name in.

I think he's going to run just for the reason he wouldn't be doing all these TV appearances if he wasn't, so I think I found my choice.

Fitting, I guess since one famous Pittsburgh landmark is the Clark candy sign....
