Global Warming - the Issue we can ride to success in '04 on.

This is a threat to the future of humanity.
The melting polar ice caps will flood countries across the world.

It also is heating up the permafrost in Alaska which contain 1/9 of the world's carbon dioxide.

This is already causing havoc on the normal weather patterns.

I think 1999 was the warmest year on record.
Here in Oregon we haven't had a cold winter in 3 years.

This also is a weak spot for the GOP.
Considering that they are beholden to the oil and gas industry and Detroit's Big Three.

Republicans are defense less on this issue. There only shield came from Frank Luntz who advises republicans to denie Global Warming.

Dems can keep hittin' the GOP all day on this and they can't do anything about it.

This is the issue we can ride to success in '04

3. Unfortunately, so many folks have to see.....
....real proof of something like Global Warming before they'll even start to believe it, much less make it one of their top priorities.

I used to hear idiots at work say things like "Well, if it means warmer winters....bring it on...yuk, yuk, yuk"

As you're aware of (I'm sure) by the time that the populace wakes up to the horrifying aspects of global warming, it will be to late.

4. I wish it was, but its not
and luckily we have much much better issues to run on.

It is far too easy to deny global warming. The science behind this stuffn is very complicated so its very easy for the republicans to produce crap science to refute it and people just throw up thier hands and believe what they want to believe. Your pointing out that a year was particularly hot shows that you too dont understand the issue. Global warming doesnt cause a hot year or a hot summer or a heat wave. We cant see global warming happening we will never have something to point to that people can just understand so it will always be a difficult issue politically.

People care about jobs, they care about the war, they care about health care. A distant scenario of global warming is not a good motivator for any voters who arent already voting democratic.

10. seriously folks
Short term weather and climate changes are not evidence for global warming anymore than a cold spell is evidence against global warming.

Global warming is something that we cant see, we just have to trust our top scientists and weigh the cost/benefits of guessing wrong.

Read "Engines of creation" by Eric Drexler.

Great book, and they even published it online for free here

11. Hmmmmm
"Dont worry too much about pollution, an answer is a coming." That sounds like a Bush administration response to what they are planning on doing to help the environment. Except they would never actually answer the question.

9. Sorry, global warming isn't an issue that'll win elections
We should focus on the dirty secrets of the Saudis and the Bush family's close personal relations with them. That is a truly bi-partisan issue that will appeal to all Americans, not just environmentalists.

Democrats also have to get serious about the war on terror, instead of claiming it's just a contrivance of Bush to take civil rights, instead of flip-flopping on whether the US should attack Iraq or not, and present a coherent plan for getting Iraq on its feet and for pursuing the Al-Qaeda network. Bush's plans are bad, but it beats having NO plan. And saying we have to build Arabs schools and be nice to Muslims wont play well with Joe Sixpack.

Global warming will win the election? Sheesh, clueless.
