Support for recall softening

Support for the recall is softening in the wake of reports that Arnold Schwarzenegger groped women and his subsequent apology for having "behaved badly sometimes," according to a new statewide survey.
The Knight Ridder/NBC Poll finds that likely voters are leaning toward booting Gov. Gray Davis from office and replacing him with the Republican actor. But backing for the recall weakened during the four days of polling, Wednesday through Saturday.
"There is a significant number of people who are having second thoughts, taking another look," said pollster Stuart Elway. Nevertheless, he said, Davis has a lot of ground to make up in the final two days of the campaign if he wants to keep his job...."
"...However, by week's end, voters were less firmly rooted in their choices, with more recall backers moving from definite support to probable, and a growing number of undecided. Similarly, opposition to the recall also slipped.
