Sony said on Thursday it would cut 10,000 jobs, reduce costs by Y200bn ($1.8bn) and close 11 manufacturing sites as part of a mid-term plan that aims to bring the group back to profitability and ensure it has a leading place in the market for digital electronics.
The restructuring plan, unveiled by Sir Howard Stringer, Sony’s first foreign chief executive, has been seen as critical to reversing Sony’s fortunes in its core electronics business.
