Poll: Bush approval rating hits new low

President Bush's "approval rating" has sunk to a new low according to a USA TODAY/CNN/Gallup poll released Monday.

The latest results show only 36% of those polled saying they "approve" of the way Bush is handling his job. Bush's previous low was 37%, set last November.

Sixty percent of those polled said they "disapprove" of Bush's performance. That matches an all-time worst rating hit last November and again two weeks ago.

Democrats have their biggest advantage since 1992 when poll respondents are asked if they favor Democratic or Republican congressional candidates. The spread: Democrats over Republicans 55% — 39%, a 16-percentage-point gap.

The public's approval rating of Bush, according to the poll, slipped below 50% last May and has been hovering just above or below 40% since October. Two weeks ago, Bush's approval rating was 38%....

39. I do know this - Bill Schneider isn't a bit happy.

The American Enterprise Institute shill who masquerades on CNN as an "independent" analyst has a rawther see-through face. He'd be shitty at poker. He gives away his feelings so often while reporting on stuff like this. I was at the bank watching the TV monitor tuned to CNN, and while the sound was muted, you could see it clearly. CLEARLY. They went to Schneider and his on-camera demeanor was as sober as an undertaker. Usually he's somewhat personable, his eyes crinkle at the outside edges and get a certain sparkle to him when the camera's on him. He usually gets this impish, "benign" little smile when he's on. But that seems true only when he has the "good fortune" to have something bad to report about Democrats, and something good to report about bush in particular and republi-CONS in general. When things aren't going well for his personal favorites, he's very somber and sober and no smiles, no twinkle in the eye, no friendly ease on camera, it's all seriousness and ponderousness.

EAT IT, schneider. He's YOUR boy. These are YOUR people. Aren't they just doing fabulously these days? You must be SO proud.

He "tries" to be objective, but his face is just too transparent. He gives himself away every time.

41. It's also significant for Gallup. It tends to skew republi-CON all the

time, because, more often than not, the general survey pool routinely tends to have more republi-CONS in it than Dems, so realistically, you have to subtract another five points or so to get a better idea of public sentiment.

If Gallup says 36 percent, I'd guess more along the lines of LOW 30's. My husband says it'll be in the 20's by IMPEACHMENT time (January 07 - when the DEMS take back the House of Reps, and John "my hero!" Conyers assumes the chairmanship of the House Judiciary Committee).

No one deserves it more.

Is it just the war in Iraq or is a cumulation of bad economy, high gas prices, AWOL from Katrina and the Dubai debacle? I really if it is the one thing - admittedly a huge thing - but about 2 out of every 3 Americans think he's a failure on Iraq alone. Hey, if true or not true, this low approval numbers work for me. He had Norm Ornstein on and when Al mentioned 36%, Norm pointed out that that number is Bush's job approval rating, but that his personal approval rating was at 29%. (He's still ahead of Cheney, though, whose personal approval ratings are currently circling the bowl at 18%.)

They both wondered what kind of people those 29% are and the smart-assed answer that popped into my head was this: they're idiots.
