Lieberman, Graham Endorse Troop Buildup (wrote letter of support to Bush)
WASHINGTON -- Sens. Joseph I. Lieberman and Lindsey O. Graham today sent a tough, strongly-worded letter to President Bush saying they "strongly encourage you to send additional American troops to Iraq," a step Bush is expected to take later this week.

<snip>

As a result, Lieberman and Graham Monday assured the president they were encouraged by what they are hearing from the White House.

"Our strategy in Iraq is not working," they wrote. "We recognize that fact."
"However," they added, "withdrawing from the fight is not a sound, long-term policy for the national security of the United States. Withdrawing from the fight is a recipe for defeat. It should not be adopted."

They applauded Bush's recent changes in the military command of U.S. troops in Iraq, and urged additional forces.

. . .

At a Capitol news conference, Lieberman noted that the U. S. "never committed enough troops" to the Iraq effort, and that any increase should be "substantial and it should be sustained," nor should it be subject to any time limits.

2. Democrats can win up to 4 additional Senate seats in 2008.
We need a net gain of at least 1 in order to be able to push Joe aside.

4. Lindsey surprises me a bit with this position. Joe does not!
Although I disagree with Lindsey most of the time,he's a sharpguy who used to be a JAG officer. He's usually not a "I support the Prez no matter what" kind of guy. I guess it could be that he's mentally so much a part of the military, he can't stand to say we've lost.

6. Well if that isn't a definition of a "war without end" I don't know what is -
kill 'em all joe - " any increase should be "substantial and it should be sustained," nor should it be subject to any time limits."

How many people have to die to make you and your buddy in other people's blood bush heroic, there, joe? How many more need die for his legacy, and whatever it is that you're after?

One and the same, those two...

but with his (Joe's) dirty campaign dealings (Petty Cash for votes) and his constant GW butt kissing this should be enough!!

Didn't Joe give a bunch of speeches right there at the end saying he was in favor of ending the war?

11. Lieberman carries Israel's water for them
plain and simple. IT's the only thing I can come up with for someone that is so right on so many other issues important to us.

Doesn't matter anyway because Lieberman has no vote in the House.

So's McCain. I can't understand why he's so popular in some circles. Because other prominent Republicans are even worse?

13. McCain and Lieberman have been talking about a major troop surge
not the measly 20,000 troops that Bush is being reported as wanting to send to Iraq. The Armed Forces don't have enough troops to make a difference in any escalation of the ground war in Iraq. This letter is nothing but a PR move by Lieberman and Graham that will give them cover once the helicopters begin evacuating the Green Zone. Lieberman and his closeted friend Graham will be able to claim that had Bush listened to them, Iraq would not have been lost.

Is Lieberman thinking of running with NYC mayor Bloomberg?

32. Lieberman would give the war-war-kill-kill conservatives a reason to vote
for McCain. Otherwise, they would stay home. In any event, the point is moot because McCain will not survive the GOP primary process. The war-war-kill-kill conservatives hate McCain and they will turn out more in primaries than moderates.

19. Honestly, what can Ct voters do to Joe?
Don't get me wrong, I can't stand the guy. But he won as an Independent, (mostly with Rep votes) he can tell everyone to screw for the next six years. I used to call his office and complain but he obviously didn't give a shit when he was a Democrat, why would he give a shit now?

That bastard is there only through the ignorance of the voters in Connecticut so they now have blood on their evil little hands.

33. And to think some "DEM" "leaders"and many in the DLC supported this man over the DEM nominee.
And to think that some DUers did too.

So who are the "crazy" "not-in-the mainstream" "radicals" now?

The anti war DEMS who the public agrees with or pro-Bush right-wingers like Lieberman & his supporters that the public disagrees with?

35. There is no difference between the neolibs of DLC's PPI, and the PNAC neocons
They are both imperial globalists that want to ignore all international law conventions in order to use American military might to bend the world to our will.

While others did not even pretend to support & honor the DEM nomination process.

You are wrong- I see a big difference right there!!!
