MALIBU, Calif. — A fire fanned by Santa Ana winds burned three structures as it spread over two acres Monday, authorities said.

About 100 firefighters were en route to the blaze at West Pacific Coast Highway and Malibu Canyon Road, said Los Angeles County fire Inspector Ron Haralson.

It was not clear what type of structures were ablaze, he said. Winds were blowing at 21 mph when the blaze erupted about 5 p.m.

2. Tis the season there, right? My sisters live in So. Cal, and
if I recall, they/you do get the spring showers, especially during an El Nino. I do remember homes sliding down hills during the last one.

3. Are the Santa Ana's a problem all year long?
Or is it more because it's so dry?

:hi:

5. They usually blow in the autumn and early winter
And they don't blow because it's dry, but it's dry because they blow. :D

10. 200 miles North here
Edited on Mon Jan-08-07 09:40 PM by brook
the winds were brutal today. The weather is totally weird - froze over the weekend and roasted today. They're forecasting a drop from 74 or so to 58-60 mid-week.

Maybe it's time for the Flat Earthers to stop poo-pooing Global Warming and Climate Change? Ya think?

Edited to add link to past Malibu fires- I lived there on Big Rock Beach 1965-70.

6. excarbated by our "weird" (i.e., "inevitable") weather...
dry season is extended, unusual sustained winds during a late winter drought, etc.

And no rain at all...

9. I'm just over the hill from Malibu. Fires in January, Santa Anas in
January are just plain WEIRD. And I have been here 25 years, so I have seen most variations of our weather.

18. Doesn't el nino have to do with the ocean temp being much
higher than normal in the Pacific which causes more rain. We have had some rain this year. More than usual for this time of year as far as I remember. Today it was hot and windy typical Santa Ana conditions. Last week I froze my butt off.

19. Santa Anas in January aren't weird at all.
And I've lived here several years, too. Granted, we should be getting more rain, but the winds are pretty normal.

25. True - we do always get nasty winds on the heels of our winter cold/rainy
fronts. I just don't think of them as Santa Anas if it's COLD.

Don't you wish for once we could see breezes (not gales) and that they were from some direction other than out of the desert???? LOL

according to KCRA/Sac news at 6:30. Oceanview properties. This is right across the street from Pepperdine. They are fighting it by air at night.

Nasty brush fire--to be so relatively small, it's done quite a bit of damage. :-(

24. What do they mean, it's "not clear what type of structures were ablaze?"
It's Malibu, California! Don't they know which buildings are which? Don't they have addresses?

Which reminds me of a great story: A couple of city planners in an office tower overlooking Harlem spotted some guys breaking into an apartment building through the door on the roof. All they had to do was whip out their city maps, pinpoint the building, and call the cops, who were ready and waiting then the theives stepped out the front door!
