A man with alleged ties to suspected bomber Luis Posada
Carriles, under investigation in New Jersey, was released
from a Cuban prison.

Cuba recently released from prison a Guatemalan man with alleged connections to Cuban exile militant Luis Posada Carriles, who is being investigated by a federal grand jury in New Jersey on his alleged role in bombings on the communist island in the 1990s.

Jazid Ivan Fernandez Mendoza, 36, was released from a Cuban prison Dec. 12 and returned to Guatemala eight days later, according to Guatemala's ministry of the exterior.

A Cuban government official in Guatemala said in a telephone interview Monday that Fernandez, a Guatemalan citizen, had been released more than a year before his sentence was up.

''He was freed before finishing his term for good conduct even though he was accused of terrorism,'' said Rolando Barroso, first secretary to the Cuban ambassador in Guatemala. ``It would be interesting to ask the American authorities, now that this person is free, if they are going to interview him.''

1. Of course Cuba is much more lenient in sentencing.

The US is anomolous in that regard. It's why the US has the highest rate of incarceration.

2. I remember Luis Posada Carriles told the New York Times reporters, in an interview,

one of them being Ann Louise Bardach, that he found recruits in Central America who desperately needed money, and were willing to do bombings.

It seemed to be a turn in the tide when the Cuban American National Foundation-related Miami terrorists finally became so posh they could start contracting out their terrorism, so they took smaller personal risks, were less likely to accidently get blown up themselves, as has happened in the past, and still get the bombings done!

No one should hold his breath wondering if New Jersey, home of the SECOND LARGEST population of Cuban "exiles" in the country, and also home to its own fair share of anti-Cuban terrorists, is going to be hell bent to get serious about investigating Luis Posada Carriles.

6. I believe you're right. He went with his doctor when his doctor returned.

I think articles said that he will be going through recuperation there.

Don't know what to make of the timing. Luis Posada Carriles really should have to face some kind of penalty for his crimes, especially his participation in the murder of the 73 people, including children, on board the Cubana airliner, the FIRST mid-air airliner bombing in history, in 1976.

7. Posada's hearing to determine if he should be held is coming up

and his pals/accomplices, both in prison, have been subpoenaed to testify against him. I wouldn't be surprised if this SOB walks.

...A federal judge has set a Feb. 1 deadline for the U.S. government to justify Posada's continued custody as an immigration detainee in El Paso. Eduardo Soto, Posada's Coral Gables attorney, told The Miami Herald Thursday that he ''totally'' anticipates the judge ordering Posada's release -- unless the federal government provides solid evidence to justify further detention.

The government, in a recent court motion, said the law allows for Posada to remain in detention because his release would pose ``serious adverse foreign policy consequences.''

8. Sure, he'll get out. He has worked too long in sensitive areas like the

head of the old Venezuelan secret police, where HE had people tortured, according to living witnesses (victims), and with the CIA, Iran-Contra, god only knows what else.......

He certainly enjoyed himself and his imaginary image during his interviews with the New York Times reporters a few years ago, when he boasted that the FBI actually just looks the other way concerning the anti-Cuba activities of the "exile" reactionaries.

No doubt you're right, and he'll one day be sitting, having some Cuban coffee with his grubby, mass-murdering, bomber associate, Orlando Bosch, after a breezy drive along Orlando Bosch Avenue in Miami, at the Versailles Cafe. Maybe they'll choke down a couple of Cuban sandwiches, to make it worth their while!

I noticed the Herald editor carefully chose the pictures that showed the three violent clowns looking as extremely old as possible, for the sympathy angle. They NEVER give up.
