Boxer will sit in for Johnson

Senate Democrats say they'll assign a temporary committee replacement for Sen. Tim Johnson, a South Dakota Democrat recovering from brain surgery.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says he still expects to see Johnson back in the chamber.

“Sen. Johnson is recovering, and we all look forward to the day he can rejoin us in the Senate," Reid said in a written statement naming Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) to chair the Senate Ethics Committee during Johnson's recovery.

I hope he's able to come back to work soon. His Dem colleagues miss him and most important of all, his constituents need him.

Get well soon Sen. Johnson!

28. Excellent news!
Not only for his family, but the country as well.

I walked down that "brain damage" road 10 years ago when my husband had a nasty stroke, and this is indeed good news. Depending on where and how much damage was done, his recovery will vary. But it's entirely possible he'll be able to fully function (as I'm sure he'll be getting the best therapy possible), and still not be able to speak well for a while, or possibly ever. But his ability to think and reason can be functioning perfectly, so voting and such should be no problem.
