Some at Guantanamo not tied to war crimes are still a threat, he said. He aims to send some home.

MIAMI - Some prisoners at the U.S. camp for terrorism suspects at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, are not guilty of war crimes but are still a threat to national security and must remain imprisoned there or in their home countries, Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said yesterday.

Rumsfeld did not say how long the detentions might continue. But he said the Pentagon intended to create a panel to review prisoners' cases annually, implying that some detentions might go on for years. He also said the United States was negotiating with some countries in hope of sending some detainees home.

1. Isn't that interesting
What are we creating here. These people will be very unhappy and I am sure their relatives will not understand if they know where they are. That breeds discontent and rage against the US. I wish we had someone in charge that had an inkling of respect for people. I wonder how rummy, bushie, dickie would like to be held as terrorist at a camp like that for years. Maybe they should try it. After all they bombed the hell out of Iraq.

OK, UNCLE! I give up! How are these people a threat to national security?? How does Rummy O'Psycho know this? When did the prisoners have a day in court to prove they are as evil as Rummy 'n' Friends? :grr:

3. Rummy knows the camp has to stay open, so when he gets
dumped there it will be running smoothly.

5. Absurd
If these people are so bad and guilty charge them with a crime and put 'em on trial. Holding people indefinently without charging them with a crime is simply wrong.
