CONCORD, N.H. (AP) -- Manuel Gehring, the Concord, N.H. man accused of killing his two children last summer and prompting a countrywide search for their bodies, has killed himself.
Attorney General Peter Heed says an autopsy shows death to have been by strangulation. He was found in his cell at the Merrimack County jail and confirmed dead at 4:30 Thursday morning.
Heed said Gehring was last seen alive at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday and that he was alone in the cell.
Gehring was accused of killing his 14-year-old daughter Sarah and 11-year-old son Philip in July in southern New Hampshire and burying their bodies somewhere in the Midwest. He was arrested in California.
