U.S. to Send Military Team to Haiti

U.S. to Send Military Team to Haiti

(AP) - The Bush administration said Thursday it would send a military team to Haiti to assess the security of that country and its embattled leader, President Jean-Bertrand Aristide. The Pentagon announcement came as Aristide declared he was "ready to give my life" to defend Haiti, indicating he was not prepared to give up power.

1. Didn't they send a team out not too long ago?
I seem to recall hearing about a "team" that consisted of a total of maybe six people.

9. That was Liberia. Kind of hard to keep them all straight isn't it?
Is there a single hot spot in the world that hasn't gotten worse in the last three years?

Next thing you know we'll be back in Somalia and Vietnam.

2. Bush is an F--n Hypocrite
In the second Presidential debate in 2000, he criticized President Clinton for sending troops to Haiti in support of Aristide. He also said he was against nation building.

it will be too late by the time they decide to do anything. The situation will be resolved one way or another.

5. Colin the Shot?
How much more humiliation can this guy take?

"Earlier this week, Secretary of State Colin Powell said the
United States was reluctant to send military personnel to
Haiti to help resolve the bloody uprising against Aristide."

6. It appears we are accelerating and abetting a coup
So, are we talking oil, gas, gold, uranium? - What's the point - are we trying to take over to erect a new prison, military base, bombing target? Does their money have to be moved from the Cayman Islands or any of the other islands where it's stored?

The rule of colonialism and imperialism has passed to the U.S.

Can this be related to their plans to rule Cuba?

7. I have been saying this for weeks, the Marines will be back
in Haiti by election day.
We have been there, how many times? 6? 7?
I think the USMC was there for something like 30 years in the 20th century.
We have to, the boat people problem would be immense.

10. The UN really needs to get involved with this.
Between the likely boat exodus and the starvation, not to mention the fighting, we are looking at a humanitarian disaster. Way to not commit Bushie!

12. Exactly.
Though some posters above are obviously jaded; there's no motive. Haiti is being absolutely ignored because they have nothing, but people. We don't have the troops to even stop the boat exodus.

This could easily descend into a Rwanda redux south of Florida.

13. stretching ourselves thinner and thinner
At what point does it snap? Our we at the outer edges of hegemony? Bush's unfitness for office grows with each casualty abroad and each crisis near our shores. Haiti for Bush will not have the tidy resolution it had for Clinton.

Another dent in the Bush facade.

Let us keep the people in Haiti caught in the crossfire in our thoughts.
