DUBAI (Reuters) - U.S. civilian administrator in Iraq Paul Bremer has said it would not be possible to hold elections in Iraq for a year to 15 months for "technical reasons," an Arabic television channel said on Saturday.

"These technical problems will take time to fix -- we estimate somewhere between a year to 15 months...There are real important technical problems why elections are not possible," Bremer said in an interview aired on Dubai-based Al Arabiya.

"Iraq has no election law, it has no national commission to even establish a national law governing political parties, it has no voters' lists, it has not had a credible, reliable census for almost 20 years, there are no constituent boundaries to decide where elections would take place," Bremer said.

U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan announced on Thursday that it was not feasible to hold elections in Iraq before June 30, when the United States hands over power in Baghdad.

1. Weren't there elections in Iraq for the last few decades? OK,
so the only person on the ballot was Sadam, but they did vote. Therefore they should have voter lists. They should have an old election law they can dust off. Who needs a census and boundaries?

So, what is the real meaning behind this? Time to put Bremer on the unemployment line? Or do we need another conspiracy theory for the the Bush Cartel is up to????

2. They need to finish privatizing and selling off Iraq --
also they haven't finished 'modernizing' the oil fields (funded by the good ole American taxpayer) in order to sell them off or at least secure the exclusive contracts for all of Cheney's friends in the oil industry.

giant ghetto? Keep the place in chaos and rip off as much of the raw materials as possible. Iraq has the largest natural gas reserves in the world.

Figure about 500 troops killed a year and in ten years steal most of the resources. Its only about 5000 troops. The American public seems to have quite a tolerance for this thing, or at least it seems that way.

If John Q Public does not get up off of his ass and express his outrage in another year the Iraq War will become a fixture on the landscape, like the drug war, or high divorce rate, or extreme sports. Orwell's take on things will become closer to reality: perpetual war for perpetual peace.

Bush doesn't need another war, he can just keep this one going forever. With fuckbrains like Republicrat "The war is going well" Tom Daschle cheering Bush on how can Bush lose?

4. Oh this is Rich!
I remember stories that one of the signs of Saddam's evil ways was that he KNEW if you voted against him during an election through some sort of very sophisticated registration system for voters so he could arrest or torture you if you voted against him.
I'm sure that the whole system must have been destroyed in the war, huh? :eyes:
