Williams criticises Irish Catholic Church 'credibility'

The Archbishop of Canterbury has said the Roman Catholic Church in Ireland has lost "all credibility" over the way it had dealt with paedophile priests.

Rowan Williams said the problems, which had been a "colossal trauma" for the Church affected the wider public.

The interview will be broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Start the Week programme.

BBC religious affairs correspondent Robert Pigott said Dr Williams' words represents unusually damning criticism from the leader of another Church.

It is the first time Dr Williams had spoken about the scandal.

6. If there were a choice between he and the pope

Williams would win hands down on credibility, and most other measures. He's a highly intelligent man (speaks 11 languages, which is 11 more than our last president), but is extremely unpretentious. No popemobile for him...he goes about in a Honda Civic hybrid without much fuss.

My self at70 yrs old have spent my life recovering from this organization. Wen in grade school i felt its wrath.The ? I keep asking through all this: WHERE IS THE DA? Why aren't these people in "DA BIG HOUSE". Child Rape is crime in most countries. The Irish have a DA or what ever HR/SHE is called or is the church above the law. I believe the latter part of the last sentience is most correct.

9. I think many will opt for the pub or the park

and not Church services.
From what I've read, the disgust at the Church is pretty strong. However, hatred of the English will prevent them from going to the protestant Church of Ireland.
