Okla. tea parties and lawmakers envision militia
Source: Associated Press

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Frustrated by recent political setbacks, tea party leaders and some conservative members of the Oklahoma Legislature say they would like to create a new volunteer militia to help defend against what they believe are improper federal infringements on state sovereignty.

Tea party movement leaders say they've discussed the idea with several supportive lawmakers and hope to get legislation next year to recognize a new volunteer force. They say the unit would not resemble militia groups that have been raided for allegedly plotting attacks on law enforcement officers.

"Is it scary? It sure is," said tea party leader Al Gerhart of Oklahoma City, who heads an umbrella group of tea party factions called the Oklahoma Constitutional Alliance. "But when do the states stop rolling over for the federal government?"

There is nothing they can do about it.

Guard, but it is subject to federalization by the President.

46. I'm confused. A few posts down someone said treason too and I pointed out that sedition was the term
...that was applicable as it involves domestic insurrection without aid of foreign agents, which would fall under treason. That sub thread was deleted. What happened, did another poster go apeshit after that?

9. Tea Party whackos are one thing, but to see an elected official give credence to this is extreme.
"State Sen. Randy Brogdon, R-Owasso, a Republican candidate for governor who has appealed for tea party support, said supporters of a state militia have talked to him, and that he believes the citizen unit would be authorized under the Second Amendment to the Constitution.

The founding fathers "were not referring to a turkey shoot or a quail hunt. They really weren't even talking about us having the ability to protect ourselves against each other," Brogdon said. "The Second Amendment deals directly with the right of an individual to keep and bear arms to protect themselves from an overreaching federal government."

Another lawmaker, state Rep. Charles Key, R-Oklahoma City, said he believes there's a good chance of introducing legislation for a state-authorized militia next year."

16. The only "attack" on Oklahoma was on the Federal Building in 1995

By Timothy McVeigh and one or more other militia members.

If they're putting together a militia, and there has been no hostile attack by anyone by right wing nutcases, it's illegally taking up arms against the US.

Due to that attack by a right wing nutcase, it is just idiotic that these people would end up being sympathetic to anti-government people who spilled blood in their state.

18. That's all we need - competing militias within and between states and against the federal gov't.
Then again, maybe the militias will just take each other out in a circle of militia fighting. Do not think these militia forming people will be able to handle authority well and there will be more than one militia per area. Despite all the tea bags they do not seem like the kind of people who sit down for a civilized cup of tea at tea time. Finger sandwiches anyone? Pass the cream and the ammunition? Oh my.

We elect a new governor this year, and there's really not much chance another Dem will be elected to follow Brad Henry. Mary Fallin's running, and now there's talk that Steve Largent may be looking to run again.

I can't imagine that kind of shit that will come down if we have a Repuke majority Legislature.

1.) I'm sorry, not all of us are like this, there are some wonderful progressive people here, I guess there just aren't enough of us and...

2.) I'm considering filing a complaint against these nutbags with the FBI. Enough of this shit, it's treason, and pontential for terrorism. If they can't stand it that a black man was elected president and that we lawfully elected a democratic majority, they need to get the fuck out...enough! :grr:

23. There's nothing wrong with Oklahoma
I'm a union construction worker. I've worked with some folks from Oklahoma in the past. As you say, very progressive folks.
What we have here is a fringe that's getting free press. Then, they think they are great patriots. That's far from the case.
They are inciting insurection against the Federal government. They seem to forget that in the 1860s we fought a civil war over this "states' rights" bushit.

I hope the folks in Oklahoma can think right when they get to the ballot box or else their state is in serious trouble.

27. I hope they can too
But the problem is they always somehow screw up at the ballot box. That's how we wind up with asshats like inhofe over and over.

The thing that pissed me off the most is they are all chomping at the bit to overturn the healthcare law. It's far from perfect but my family stands to benefit from it and they are bound and determined to get in the way. My health premiums have soared out of control and no matter how long and hard I work, I can't keep up with it. They are really pissing me off, their actions are designed to hurt my family as far as I'm concerned, so they can all smoke a fat turd in hell...all of them. :grr:

40. WE were having a conversation in the hallway the other day....
and a few of the folks were whining about health care reform. I told them that under my contract, my hourly contribution costs between $14k to
$18K a year in health care expenses. I said, they are supposed to pay 80%, not all the time. They have an issue with pre-existing conditions and some diseases they will not cover.
The conversation changed. They were paying out of pocket around $300 a month and getting excellent care. They were complaining.
I've had to give up wage increases to cover my health care premium increases. It's a good thing I have a union job. I'd hate to have to deal with it without it. I'd be in the poor house.
The idiots that believe the conservanazi bushit have it good. They are not struggling trying to make up. Real wages have not increased in years. It's only going to get worse.
People need to organize and oppose these crooks in the health insurance industry.

I'm facing retirement. I have money to pay the premiums and they are not cheap. Luckily, we have a retiree option to our health care plan. It cost a little less than our COBRA payments.

- From the internets......

We had eight years of Bush and Cheney, but now you get mad!?

You didn't get mad when the Supreme Court stopped a legal recount and appointed a President.
You didn't get mad when Cheney allowed Energy company officials to dictate energy policy.
You didn't get mad when a covert CIA operative got outed.
You didn't get mad when the Patriot Act got passed..
You didn't get mad when we illegally invaded a country that posed no threat to us.
You didn't get mad when we spent over 600 billion(and counting) on said illegal war.
You didn't get mad when over 10 billion dollars just disappeared in Iraq .
You didn't get mad when you found out we were torturing people.
You didn't get mad when the government was illegally wiretapping Americans.
You didn't get mad when you saw the horrible conditions at Walter Reed.
You didn't get mad when we let a major US city drown.
You didn't get mad when we gave a 900 billion tax break to the rich.
You didn't get mad when the deficit hit the trillion dollar mark, and our debt hit the thirteen trillion dollar mark.

You finally got mad when the government decided that people in America deserved the right to see a doctor if they are sick. Yes, illegal wars, lies, corruption, torture, stealing your tax dollars to make the rich richer, are all okay with you, but helping other Americans... hell no. BUT NOW YOU'RE MAD?!?!?!
