Candy Co. Recalls Toxic Waste Bar
Source: KCRA TV

An Indianapolis-based candy distributor has recalled all Toxic Waste brand Nuclear Sludge Chew Bar candies after California health officials said they found unacceptable levels of lead from the Pakistan-imported candies.

California Department of Public Health Director Dr. Mark Horton said a recent analysis determined that the candies contained as much as .24 parts per million of lead. California considers candies with lead levels in excess of .10 parts per million to be contaminated, Horton said.

The health official said consumers in possession of the candy, which comes in cherry, sour apple and blue raspberry flavors, should discard it immediately.

Meanwhile, pregnant women and parents of children who may have consumed this candy should consult their physician or health care provider to determine if medical testing is needed, Horton said.

Takes truth in advertising to a whole new level. Slightly flawed concept however.

12. 1st time I saw SNL was by accident, didn't know anything about it, was one of those ads
thinking it was a thing to put price tags on food at a store, then they broke into some guy playing his harmonica, singing blues about how he couldn't get his foot to stop tapping. W.T.F?

Yes, back with the original SNL guys. Loved that show and them.

We should find out what ingredient of this candy contained the majority of led, and in what part of the production process it was introduced.

There http://www.google.com/search?source=ig&hl=en&rlz=&=&q=Toxic+Waste+brand+Nuclear+Sludge+Chew+Bar&btnG=Google+Search&aq=f&oq=#q=Nuclear+Sludge+Chew+Bar&hl=en&prmd=ivnsu&source=lnms&tbs=shop:1&ei=l5UxTY2vNoT4sAPlr-HRBQ&sa=X&oi=mode_link&ct=mode&cd=5&ved=0CA4Q_AUoBA&biw=1059&bih=995&fp=c72bee5a4a93f9a3">appears to be plenty of places to buy this type of candy online.

23. It is not that SOME is OK. It's that below a certain level, it becomes...
...impractical to keep it out entirely.

While obviously not good, you'd have to seriously gorge yourself on that candy for it to do measurable damage.

Did you know rice is permitted n rat "pellets" per ton? Flour, so many weevils? All foods are subject to permissible levels of "foreign matter".

7. First we should explore...
whether the "release date" for this was advanced from April 1.

If not, pregnant and non-pregnant women and men should consult their mental health care provider
to get a prescription for snark pills to avoid further losses to their sense of irony.

27. It would probably depend on the level of contaminates it contains
That's what the above article is about...

"California Department of Public Health Director Dr. Mark Horton said a recent analysis determined that the candies contained as much as .24 parts per million of lead. California considers candies with lead levels in excess of .10 parts per million to be contaminated, Horton said."

Edited on Sat Jan-15-11 02:46 PM by Turborama
That's what my reply was about.

I did read the OP. It's name reminded me of the candy I mentioned.

On edit: I notice one of the few posters I have ignored has replied, too. Most likely the free speech absolutist who only ever posts about the 1st amendment. I guess I'll never know, though.

35. A separate thread about Warheads and Torture Scorchers would be interesting
But since this one is about how Nuclear Sludge Chew Bar--made by Toxic Waste--contains high levels of contaminants, then the relevant comparisons to these other candies would be if Warheads literally exploded in one's mouth, or if Torture Scorchers caused unbearable, unstoppable agony.

36. You're not in charge of what this thread's about
In fact, no-one is apart from the moderators, and they are only concerned about rule enforcement.

That's the way internet discussion boards work.

I'll explain how it went again just to make it clear for you....

I read the OP and the candy's name reminded me of the product I mentioned. I wrote a post about it and here we are in a subthread about those other brands of candy.

Remember that word I put in bold for you, it might come in handy occasionally.

I've been eating two or three of these a week for months.

I used to love Sour Starburst, but Mars quit making them a few years ago.

These things were the closest thing I could find.

Well, what's done is done, and I don't have health insurance, so I guess I now have lead poisoning.

38. Also, eat right
Are you having headaches, depression, nausea, bowel trouble? I would add, avoid taxing your liver with alcohol or drugs you don't need and drink the cilantro tea and more water than you would usually, to flush it out. Also, get a mineral supplement, to help displace the lead, Calcium, Magnesium and Zinc supplements are relatively inexpensive.

31. There are American Chocolates.....
and the winners are....

Ghirardelli's of San Francisco

See's

Whitman

Pangburn

Fannie May

Green Mountain

Now I love the smooth taste and texture of Hershey's but between being cheap with cocoa butter and trying to move their operations from Pennsylvania to Mexico, I really don't count it as an American company anymore.

I prefer chocolate and pay extra to support American companies. My next choice is Switzerland. What they do with milk and cocoa is amazing.

42. Ghirardelli's is owned by Swiss candymaker Lindt & Sprüngli...
and has not been made in San Francisco for decades.

Ghirardelli Chocolate has a rich history in California that predates Hershey chocolate by 42 years, but it is now just another corporate brand.

There is a German chocolate that smokes any Swiss chocolate, Ritter Sport. Ritter manages to maintain just a hint of gritty texture, a real sensory treat. The company is STILL family owned. Try their bittersweet, you will be delighted.
