Bush more than Kerry is unifying state Democrats

TACOMA — It appears the man doing the most to unify Democrats this election year is President Bush, not U.S. Sen. John Kerry.

As Democratic Party activists from across the state gathered yesterday for their three-day state convention, their collective disdain for Bush was obvious. And it was fueled further last night when former Vice President Al Gore delivered a scathing indictment of Bush's record as president.

Some Democrats remain lukewarm about Kerry, the party's presumptive nominee.

Throughout the Tacoma Convention Center yesterday, the "Kerry for President" placards, buttons and stickers were equally matched by those with anti-Bush slogans decrying everything from the war in Iraq to the Patriot Act.

"The real energy in the party is based on an anti-Bush sentiment," said state Democratic Party Chairman Paul Berendt. "So many people in America don't feel that we're in America anymore. We're losing our civil liberties. We're losing our status in the international community."

But some Democrats don't think Kerry is speaking boldly enough to really tap the depths of the anti-Bush passion.

Is it me, or is the Seattle Times becoming a much more conservative paper? If this is so, it disturbs me.

planted the idea in my brain that they weren't all RW. I haven't lived in Washington that long and I was surprised when they endorsed Bush. After that I cancelled my subscription and told them why every time they called to get me to resubscribe.

because Bush promised to repeal the inheritance tax. The country be damned. It will be interesting to see if the Times renews the endorsement, now that it's clear what an *-hole Bush is.

4. Bush will beat Bush

The vote against Bush is just that, a vote against Bush. Do not delude yourselves into thinking that a vote against Bush is a vote endorsing Kerry's DLC/PPI agenda. Don't act surprised next year when many of those that voted against Bush this November end up opposing many of Kerry's policies. I don't want to hear any of this shit about "undermining our President" from those that demanded ABB this year. The Left will not be silenced!

Hello from South Bend! Like I keep saying, a ham-sandwich could beat Bush this year. And this article is right...Bush is unifying the Dems NOT John Kerry.

8. Kerry will come out strong ..... when he NEEDS to...which ISN'T NOW!

Bush has all these millions of dollars of campaign funds, and is using them to destroy himself. Kerry is too well aware of how the neocon media whores have dumbed-down the American public to where the majority have memory retention rates of about 20 minutes, and "spectacular events" can wring-out people's attention for, AT THE MOST, 2 weeks.

Kerry is letting shrub hang himself....giving shrub enough ROPE to hang himself. Kerry will use his campaign money to tear bush's ass a new one, in plenty of time for the election. Right now, Kerry is doing more PERSONAL events....whipping up crowds in a more personal manner -- to make the election MORE PERSONAL for many people. Kerry's working his ass off in this way. Have you seen his schedule?

It seems like everyone here is pushing for immediate gratification, and, luckily, Kerry's campaign sees a longer-term strategy.

You can't plant a seed of corn today, and expect corn-on-the-cob for dinner tomorrow from that same seed.

Ever since 9/11 they have worked hard to present Bush as some "warrior king," as Chris Matthews called him, that was totally above reproach. The media was so committed to being cheerleaders to this Administration that when the time came to ask hard questions about 9/11, the Taliban, OBL, WMDs, and Iraq, they were nowhere to be found.

Bush invaded Iraq with the blessings of those that were supposed to represent us in Congress, many of whom were Democrats, but it was the media that sold the public on Bush's war and invasion of Iraq. Had the media done their work, as their British counterparts did, we could have prevented the worst foreign policy mistake ever made by the US from ever taking place.
