It became the shortest Papal visit in history: just 15 minutes. But illness and weakness did not hinder the Pope from giving president Bush sharp criticism.

"Don't try to come here waving a medal. I'm still saying no to the war".

St. Peter Square was virtually empty, except for several thousand police and american security forces when USA's President Bush came to the Vatican City yesterday. Cardinal Angelo Sodano escorted the guest up to the ailing Pontiff, who remained seated when the President arrived.

"You know very well the Church's unalterable position on this war," said the Pope and urged the president to quickly normalize the situaiton.

6. I'm always amazed when I read European newspapers.

There is a huge difference between them and US newspapers. In particular, I've noticed that anything connected with Bush goes through some kind of screening process that filters out most of what he says and does (and of course, goofy photos).

I read 3 online Swedish newspapers. Many times, the news is the same as I read here on the DU. But when it comes to Bush, there's a huge crater-sized hole.

14. DB, I was wondering the same thing myself.

I translated the article exactly as I read it from 'Expressen' newspaper. The statement by the Pope had quotes around it. I can't believe the Swedes would just whip up a statement, as if John Paul had said it.

The Swedes aren't like that -- they're very much like the Germans, very fastidious, exact proper and all that. I can usually trust what I read over there. It really is a lot of unfiltered stuff that gets shipped out across Europes.

I'll try to see if there is anything else to back up his statement.
