KUFA, Iraq (AP) Explosions rocked the compound surrounding the Kufa mosque on Monday after ammunition used by fighters loyal to Muqtada al-Sadr apparently caught fire, witnesses and Shiite militia members said. At least nine people were hurt.

Flames and smoke rose above the building. Firefighters and ambulances raced to the site, where fighters in al-Sadr's al-Madhi army had been holed up.

One militiaman blamed an American missile attack, but the U.S. military said it had no troops in the area.

Tensions remained high in Iraq after a car bomb outside an American base killed nine people Sunday and injured 30 others including three U.S. soldiers. Insurgents also blasted Iraqi police stations in a Shiite neighborhood of Baghdad and in a town south of the capital Sunday, and a U.S. soldier was killed in a mortar attack.

1. Are these three deaths soldiers or contractors?
You folks back in the US probably are not getting the news, but apparently three US "contractors," one BlackWater, have also died. Do non-soldier deaths normally get reported?

2. They don't generally get reported.
We're doing well to get any reports of military deaths, let alone "contractors." And never MIND about reports of Iraqi deaths.

4. More.....
" A U.S. security company confirmed Sunday that four of their employees two Americans and two Poles were killed the day before in an ambush on the main road to Baghdad airport. The company, Blackwater USA, lost four employees in an ambush last March in Fallujah that triggered the bloody three-week siege of the restive Sunni Muslim city.

In London, the British Foreign Office reported Sunday that a British security contractor was killed and three colleagues were wounded in a drive-by shooting Saturday in the northern city of Mosul. The four worked for ArmorGroup, a security firm with 1,000 employees in Iraq protecting official buildings and companies.

7. We get pics from Kufa, none from Kirkuk?
How is that USBase that had its ammo dump hit?

And it was a helluva lot bigger than...

Nothing's changed. We're still getting
our ass chewed off.

Stop loss orders issued, but we still have enough $
to send 8 carriers to the Western Pacific.

8. Non-Denial Denial?
> One militiaman blamed an American missile attack, but the U.S. military said it had no troops in the area.

Would we want to have troops near an ammo dump if we're firing
missiles at it?
