Abidjan - The Ivory Coast government on Saturday strongly condemned the killing of a French soldier shot by a member of the country's armed forces, the latest in a string of attacks against Westerners.
The soldier died late on Friday when an Ivorian soldier opened fire on a French military convoy traveling through Zambakro, a town south of the capital Yamoussoukro in the centre of the country.
"Very distressed by this unjustified act, the Ivorian government deplores the loss of this peacekeeping soldier and condemns in the strongest possible way this action, carried out by an out-of-control element in the FANCI (Ivorian army)," an official statement said.
