Execute Jeffery Skilling (Enron CEO)
I support the DEATH PENALTY for white male, white collar conservative CEO's of large corporations that committ the crimes of economic terrorism against workers and shareholders. I am convinced that many, though not all, liberals would support the death penalty if there was a realistic chance that wealthy white collar criminals could actually be put to death. Otherwise, I say lock Skilling up for life in a maximum security prison, not Club Fed, but a real prison.

2. "White collar" crime must not be ignored.
Business criminals should be rooted out and severely punished. They are a great danger to the security of the nation through their destructive activities. In China, embezzlers are executed... I'm not sure if I wish such offenses to be capital crimes in the U.S. however.

3. Execution is a bit harsh
I advocate the same punishment for him as I do for Chimpy (and his entire family): Exile.

Take all their money (every last penny) and property, strip them of citizenship and throw them out of the country.

4. No executions, but...
... although I totally oppose capital punishment, I have to admit that cases like this one sometimes challenge my principles.

I wouldn't mind seeing how he would do in a "death row" kind of situation for a while though.

5. Put him away for the rest of his life
but not in one of those country club prisons, but sharing a cell with a crack addict from a ghetto who never had a chance at life.

6. If anyone deserves the death penalty,
it should be corporate scum who have a far greater destructive impact than some poor (always) "killer" who has murdered one person.

While I am opposed to the DP, it only seems fair that these types should get the maximum penalty under the laws that exist.

Of course, we know that repukes never suffer for their crimes, even if convicted of murder (see Thomas Druce, repug of PA).

But, we can dream...

10. death penalty for corporations
Revoke their charter, wring every penny from the board and the executives to repay those they have harmed.

11. You mean the same liberals who want to FREE MUMIA (tm)?
I doubt they'd jump on the death penalty bandwagon.

12. No no no!
Execution is much too swift...I would prefer something long and drawn out...perhaps a jail cell to be shared with a Jeffrey Dahmer wannabe.

13. Idea from Chappelle's Show
White collar criminals should face the same system that goes after pot dealers. For just one day, the white collar criminals from Enron and Halliburton and Tyco should experience the same degrading treatment and outrageously disproportionate sentencing that minorities, especially African American men, experience for far less harmful crimes.

I'm not saying that other crimes are okay, but even an armed robber doesn't hurt as many people as Enron.

Rules to start discussion threads in the General Discussion forum

1. If you start a thread in the General Discussion forum, you must present your opinion in a manner that is not inflammatory, which respects differences in opinion, and which is likely to lead to respectful discussion rather than flaming. Some examples of things which should generally be avoided are: unnecessarily hot rhetoric, nicknames for prominent Democrats or their supporters, broad-brush statements about groups of people, single-sentence "drive-by" thread topics, etc.

Oh, and trial first, sentencing afterward.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation,
DU moderator
