Scotland worried/angry over DU

MoD ‘lied’ over depleted uranium

Army advises troops in Iraq of health risk but insists Scottish firing range is safe, despite growing international concern

CLAIMS by the Ministry of Defence that depleted uranium (DU) is not a risk to life have been undermined by a Sunday Herald investigation that found the British army is telling soldiers in Iraq that it can cause ill-health.
The revelation has outraged the military, scientists and politicians. Studies have shown DU leads to cancers, birth defects, memory loss, damage to the immune system and neuro-psychotic disorders. But the MoD has claimed since the first Gulf war that “DU does not pose a risk to health or the environment”.

-snip-

The MoD had fired more than 6350 DU rounds into the Solway Firth from its testing range at Dundrennan by 1999. In the first Gulf war 320 tonnes of DU were used, in the second more than 1000 tonnes were used .

Locals in the Dundrennan area and their political leaders are angry that British troops are being warned about the risk of DU, while they are not.

-snip-

It has led to birth defects in the children of veterans and Iraqis and is believed to be the cause of the “worrying number” of anophthalmos cases – babies born without eyes – in Iraq. A study of veterans showed 67% had children with severe illnesses, missing eyes, blood infections, respiratory problems and fused fingers.

67% ! sixty seven percent!

women the world over should be screaming non-stop about this.

2. The regime has decreed that DU is safe

It provides substantial savings to America's defense industry, helping to increase revenues and keeping it an investor favorite.

Scotland must do whatever it takes to crack down on tinfoil hat conspiracy theories intended to incite anti-American sentiment or face severe punishment.

3. Why just the women?
Don't men have the capacity to care?
This is one helluva terrible story.

4. but it's women who bare these babies and it's mostly women who

raise these babies and it's women who mourn the death of these babies.

if men cared, they wouldn't use DU or allow the men in power to use it - bottom line

7. My brother said the Army has informed him
that since he was in PGWI, he still has a 30% higher probability of having children with serious defects, even now. He has opted not to ever have kids. He has made a significant sacrifice, IMO and in his opinion, to meet the prior demand of his govt to serve.

10. A young friend of ours had a daughter last year
with goldenhars syndrome (it's been associated with Gulf War exposure to chemicals)..

She had no eyelid, her left eye was filled with tumors, and had to be removed at 1 month..She has little or no vision in the other eye, has other deformities as well..

Their other child born before he went was perfectly fine..

Of course the military denies that there was anything wrong with Mike :(

Tell that to their daughter..
