Scathing "bio" of Reagan on Rotten.com...
...
a sample:
Everybody knew he was a dumbass. Ronald Reagan was famous for not understanding how government works and not particularly caring about it. His job was to read speeches off the Teleprompter, shake hands with foreign dignitaries, pose for pictures, and maybe go out and visit a flag factory or a steel mill every once in a while. Otherwise he was busy sleeping in, eating jellybeans, and watching television.
Even so, Reagan got deferential treatment from the press, so the news coverage almost always cast him in the best possible light. He was extremely comfortable in front of the cameras, as you would expect -- after all, he had been a movie star prior to becoming a politician. And he could be disarmingly affable. He often shared jokes and anecdotes and brilliantly-scripted one-liners that sounded spontaneous. But none of that explains why the journalists decided to take it easy on him.

The reason Reagan got a free ride in the media stemmed from his fortuitously-timed assassination attempt. .....

1. Rotten library minces no words
Edited on Mon Jun-07-04 01:16 AM by RatTerrier
A very addictive information source.

Where else can you learn about obscure terrorists, historical figures, comic books, evil corporate entities and porn, all at one site?

And they're a fair source. They hate liberals just as much as conservatives.

Just be careful migrating to the Rotten.com homepage!

7. That's a heck of a book.
Mark Hertsgaard, ace reporter, documented how the GOPress works. Michael Deaver, Ed Meese, Poppy and the rest of the BFEE toad swarm looted the country, penured the middle class, and enslaved the planet thanks to the Fifth Estate.

3. The media give the rightwingers a free pass
Edited on Mon Jun-07-04 01:29 AM by Rabrrrrrr
because, I'm quite certain, it's only the rightwing fake-Christian evil republicans who call up the media the day after an election and say "We're gonna have the FCC shut you down or fine you, or imprison you, or kill you and/or your family or make you 'kill yourself with self-hatred' if you say anything negative and actually looks for 'news'".

I'm sure that one of the reasons the media is so critical of liberals is that the media know that liberals won't make a reporter commit "suicide" or have their house burn down or lose their license.

Imagine if the media were doing to Shrubbie McFuckingIdiot what they did to Clinton. Half of the reporters would be dead, at least two of the networks would be closed down, and the government coffers would be overflowing with fine money.

13. Thanks!
Ever since Reagan I've felt that way, wondering why the liberals are so easily attacked the conservatives aren't.

Then I remembered who used to run the CIA.

And remembered which of the two parties have a significant majority of their leadership made up of well entrenched people who think nothing of using violence and threats to get their way.

4. Deja vu all over again
Damn I get chills reading that, it sounds so current. Except for the stuff about Reagan's ability to string a coherent sentence together, of course.
