1. from the White House transcript:
Q Thank you, sir. I would have a question for Mr. Bush. Once, President Kennedy said, "Everyone has two countries, their own, and France." And why is it that your policy tends to be pushing your country and France to divorce?

Second point, some in public opinion have accused you of state terrorism, and do you not believe that what has happened in Abu Ghraib has put you in the same basket, as it were, of Saddam Hussein, especially in the eyes of an international tribunal, and especially in light of the unfound weapons of mass destruction?

PRESIDENT BUSH: To paraphrase President Kennedy, there's America, and then there's Texas.

2. Dub thinks Texas is a country?
...oddly enough, I'm no longer shocked.

5. He's just playing being a Texan again!
I don't know that he believes that, but there are lot of very proud Texans who do. Of all the places I've lived, Texans have been the most vocal about "proud to be a Texan". Heck, lots still won't recognize that another State is bigger than Texas (Alaska), they simply it doesn't count becasue it's not part of the cintiguous 48.

Shrub is just playing up his image....like the World cares.

6. Perhaps it should be, and relegated to a commonwealth
status, much like parts of the old British Empire are to the UK. That would have the marvelous effect of disqualifying any more Texas boobs from the presidency or the vice presidency. They'd have to establish residence in a real state if they wanted to run for any other national office, or be qualified to sit on a president's cabinet.

It's overdue. Let's mess with Texas, 'cause they've messed the rest of the country up enough.

7. Oh just stop it
Ever state has it's set of whack jobs. It just so happens that Bush likes to pretend he is a Texan (remember he was born in Connecticut). There are a lot of good Texans and just trying to throw the whole state away is foolish (even in jest).

Let's all stop our Texas bashing and, instead, put that time into elected Kerry.

4. Not surprisingly, what the White House left out during the question
...was Bush muttering under his breath, attempting to interrupt (three times, if I remember correctly), nodding his head, and attempting to intimidate the interviewer.

He failed.

But anyone reading the transcript who did not see this live needs to understand that Bush did not stand there quietly, politely, professionally while that question was being asked. He was throwing a presidential hissy-fit.

If so, I'd like to see it, and I'm sure a lot of others would, too.
