military eligibility/sleep disorder
does anyone know if a sleep disorder will disqualify you from military service? my 18 y.o. son is one of those people with a circadian clock that is not 24 hours. his is about 26 hours. in the course of a month, he cycles from being a day person to being a night person. there is nothing that can be done about this really. you can ameliorate it, but not really stop it. it might not sound like much, but it is impossible for him to function like a normal person.
so, would the army take a person like this? we do not have doctors diagnosis of this. long story. but if it might get him out of the draft, maybe we should do it.
thoughts?

Best bet for keeping out of service is a major fracture of some major bones requiring surgery and metal pins, screws, or plates.

Seriously. Even athsma may not be disqualified the next go around because the incidence of athsma is so muc higher than it was in the eraly seventies.

5. A Lot of these Conditions Merely Disqualify You From Surviving
if you do get sent over there.

That's one of the reasons that there ain't no such thing as a fair draft.

2. The military, in my experience
wasn't too concerned about your sleep habits. They kinda thrive, it would seem, on making sure you got little.

However, if you can document going in that he has a legitimate sleep disorder, then he might be "over-looked" at induction. 4-F. That's all speculation, but better to do the legwork before hand.

3. Circadian Rhythm
I don't think a 26-hour cycle is unusual. The Army gets you up at 4 a.m., regardless of what time it is on your personal clock.

4. They will give him ambien. He will sleep
when he takes it and he'll wake up when it wears off and that will keep his circadian rhythm stable.
