Statement from President Carter on the death of Ronald Reagan
I hope this isn't a dupe, got it off the Carter Center site:

"Rosalyn and I join millions of people around the world who mourn the loss of President Reagan. He was a formidable political campaigner, who provided an inspiration voice to America when our people were searching for a clear mesage of hope and confidence. He had unshakeable beliefs and was able to express them effectively, both in America and abroad. During the past 10 years, Rosalyn and I have often conveyed to Nancy Reagan our friendship and admiration for her own great service, not only to her husband but to our nation. We extend our condolences to the entire Reagan family during this time of grief."

1. From a genuinely good
person. Short, sweet, to the point and heartfelt. What more needs to be said or done?

2. Nicely said. Just what I have come to expect from Jimmy Carter.
There is a lot to learn from a man like that.

6. It's my experience,
that words spoken about someone recently passed, bear more to the character of the speaker than to the deceased.

4. I don't think he sounds like a Reagan-lover
I think it sounds like he was stretching to find nice things to say.

5. wow, what a reaction

to a obviously carefully worded statement by Jimmy Carter. I don't think it was any less gracious of a statement as John Kerry's.
