Just saw F 9/11 at Westhampton in Richmond, VA. WOW!
Luckily, a friend had arrived very early and bought our tickets, or we would not have made it in to the 4 PM show. By the time we got there right at 4, they had turned away hundreds of people. They are now sold out for the entire weekend.

Three news trucks were there interviewing people. Some groups were leafleting the crowd with anti-Bush info, and there was a great air of excitement. No freepers in view, although there are plenty of freepers in Richmond.

The movie was very, very powerful. No one can fail to be moved by it. I will be buying it on DVD as soon as it is released. I did not see any twisting of the facts. Moore was actually more restrained than I thought he would be, putting up news story clips to back up everything he said.

A funny thing happened in the theater as we were all watching previews of movies to come. Several times, just when we thought the movie was actually going to be next and we were treated to MORE previews, a guy in the back of the theater hollers, "Get Bush out of the projection room!"

The whole place cracked up.

1. Same here in California...
Did you get a flyer for Michael Moore's On-line Town Hall Meeting on Monday night? You can register at http://action.moveonpac.org/f11/. Most of the parties are already full in my area.

5. Same thing in El Paso today.
Full theatre, standing ovation at end. Lots of people left the theatre with tears in their eyes. TV cameras outside, no disrupters. Great film by a most talented director.

btw, your post brought back fond memories - I can't even count the number of movies I've seen at the Westhampton (I used to live in Richmond, in the fan district).

7. As a TN resident the ending was a special kick in the gut. I groaned and
so did a lot of other people in the theater. Just shoot me!!!!! Damn.

No spoilers.

8. It's starting to sound almost Woodstock-like
Strangers speaking to one another as if they were old friends. A (political) generation suddenly finding its voice and its identity. People who have been isolated and alone realizing they are part of a larger movement. A transformative event that marks everyone who is part of it.

There hasn't been one of those for a while -- and I don't think there's ever been one taking place all over the nation at the same time.

9. 3-generation "love in" in Pittsburgh today
I saw it during an early afternoon showing at an out of the way *suburban* theatre because it is hard to see it in town.

Most of the people were "greatest generation"; I was the sole "woodstock" generation, and there was a group of people approx 18. Before the show, people just started talking to one another! An old guy came in, barely able to walk with a walker, and made some loud and funny remarks about how Bush is a complete imbecile and how he couldn't believe that anyone could mess things up as badly as he has -- and everyone cheered him. At the end, everyone cheered wildly. A woman of about 75 looked around and angrily said she couldn't understand why the theatre wasn't packed, and others chimed in about how critical it is for everyone in the country to see this film and to understand how high the stakes are.

It was great. It was beautiful. I love these people. I love this country! On days like today, I think that maybe things are going to turn around now....

I don't think the Bushistas care to admit how broad the passionate opposition to them is in this country.

10. Absolutely Woodstock-ish
Just got back from a 4:30 Denver showing.. Easily sold out. Everyone was in tune and most were well informed. No Freepers at all. Lots of people passing out literature. There was a local Faux news camera there interviewing people. I made an effort to watch people's reactions to * on screen and the prevailing non-verbal reaction was side to side head shaking. Like, I can't believe what he's saying. I plan on going to see it again next week to gauge reaction of the general public, I think it's going to blow them away.

I don't think it's out of line to call this historic film, "Our Woodstock".

12. I agree. Very Woodstock-ish in Richmond today.
It was like a party, or maybe a tearful wake. Most in the audience knew the info presented, and we all hissed, booed, clapped, etc., all during the movie. We stood outside and talked to each other and to the leafleters in the crowd.

I could kick myself for not thinking to bring voter registration forms with me. But I had just come straight from work and really didn't think about it.

15. Yes, I think so too
Remember Nixon's "Silent Majority" that he claimed to be representing?

Yesterday and today while reading all the various threads on the movie that thought came to me.

We are the true "silent majority" or the "silenced majority" and this is our film and we are now thanks to MM making ourselves heard loud and clear.

13. Nay...
I was there too...in the front row.

Nice to see someone else from DU in the area!

We need to get this pushed into a larger theatre though. Perhaps Commonwealth 20 or Short Pump 10.

ps... weren't those tiny seats a bitch to sit in? lol

14. I was there....
Quite an event for the Capital of the Confederacy. I heard on the 11:00 news that all the shows after 4:00 sold out also. Can't wait to read what the Times-Dispatch editorial staff says about this, can you?

17. I agree, quite an event. The newspaper article in the Times-Disgrace
this morning spends a lot of time talking about a liberal kid who took his two Republican friends and was unable to convert them. . .and the article makes sure to portray the leafleter they meet as a rabid maniac :eyeroll:

It also amused me to see the writer call "alleged" all the Bush "corporate interests in Afghanistan, Iraq and the House of Saud." These facts aren't "alleged" -- they are out there for any investigative reporter to find in public financial records. Nothing "alleged" about them.

Also, the Republican kid who didn't like Moore's filming of the devastated mother of the dead soldier -- what do you wanna bet he's fine when BUSH and his cronies manipulate HIM with flag-waving crap?
