F911 is not some sort of opposite of the Passion
The freeps would dearly love to portray F911 as somehow anti-christian. That's what they're trying to do with this "The Passion earned more money than F911" crap. That way, we will say, "oh yeah, well, your movie played in more theatres" and voila, it's Michael Moore vs. Jesus. You know our freep friends would never couch this as a Mel vs. Michael deal anyway.

1. But what happens if it actually does earn more?
On fewer screens with less of a budget? No way to spin that.

4. it won't
so give up that dream now.

Before F911, the best selling documentary of all time was Bowling for Columbine, which made about 21 million domestically. Passion made over $370 million.

F911 will, this weekend, surpass BFC, but it will never surpass Passion. Nor should we expect it to - as was pointed out in the OP, they're not mirror images of each other.

6. Passion made 238 million overseas....
With all the festering Bush loathing internationally, F-911 could do very very well overseas.

Agree or Disagree?

10. I agree it will
do very very well overseas for a documentary.

But it won't ever come close The Passion's numbers.

9. But it will triple Colombine and quite possibly grease Eisner's exit
from Disney.

I predicted 100 million worldwide to wide derision.

Anybody want to laugh at this prediction now?

11. nope
I'll take 100 million worldwide. That would be phenomenal. In fact, I think it could surpass that, but we have to see how big the dropoff is next week.

16. Well, I see it opening on another 200 - 300 screens next week.
How about you?

17. It's hard to say
I don't know enough about the theater business to know if theaters can quickly and easily book a film that way.

I don't know how many prints Moore has made. I don't know what other commitments the theaters have - remember, Spiderman opens Wednesday.

I'm guessing that theaters will wait a week or two to see if the movie has legs before booking it, and even then, I don't know if they'll be able to book it even if they want to.

But no doubt more screens will be added... I just can't venture a guess as to how many.

18. Spiderman II is charging a premium. Many theaters are staying away from
its opening.

20. Not too many, I'll bet.
Spiderman had the biggest opening of any movie in history. I think theaters will pay a premium for its sequel. I haven't heard of it opening on significantly fewer screens than the first movie.

21. Yes, with $32,000 per theater average.
F-9/11 is going to have a $26,000 per theater weekend.

If Spidy's opening premium is $10,000 and nobody's showing F-9/11 within 100 miles, which do you go with?

22. Well
that's why I said many owners may wait a week or two to see if F911 is still selling out.

It won't be matching this weekend's numbers next weekend or the week after, though I hope I'm proved wrong.

23. Dude, it will be in at least 1100 theaters next week.
Probably more like 1250.

Money talks. You don't win the box office per theater average by over three times without increasing distribution.

All Lion's Gate has to do is allow theaters to buy 2-4 week contracts and the bookings will create themselves.

25. I think we fundamentally agree
on what will happen, Stickdog.

I think it'll break 100 million worldwide. I know it will be on more screens next week than this week - I hope your numbers are right.

As I said, I just don't know enough about the business to determine how quickly a theater can book a film, and how quickly a distributor can provide the needed copies.

7. The only similarity is that freeps praised "The Passion" without
seeing it and are now dissing F-9/11 without seeing it.

8. Of Course Not, Apples And Oranges (and DESPERATION!)
What does one have to do with the other? You could like them both or like one and not the other...The comparison is just flat-out desperation, and of course they always ignore the fact that F-9/11 is a doc and playing on 1/3 the screens, making its opening weekend nothing short of phenomenal.

12. A comparison like this being made just shows how wrongly
intertwined US politics and religion is right now. The proper response to anyone making the comparison is, :wtf: has that got to do with anything?

15. But Bu$h/F*ck 04 has made it Jeezus vs the world & starts Wars after..
...comsulting God....And by the way, while its not MM v Jesus, and overall gross of F 9/11 won't come close to "The Passion", its already beaten them on per theater earnings.

The Passion opened on Ash Wed. 04 and had 3006 theaters, but the earnings per theater were $8,835 as opposed to the $9,447 for F 9/11. On the first Friday released, The Passion brought in a theater average of $7,529!!!

Also, traditionally in the industry, Sat nite sales tend to be larger....

24. "Passion" is not, I repeat NOT a RW movie!
The wingnuts like to think it is, though.

I haven't seen "Passion", but I plan to when it comes out on DVD. I may even buy it.

But I do not consider it RW. Not to sound fundie with all of you, but I'd like to think Jesus belongs to anyone who wants him.

26. F - 9/11 crucifies the anti-Christ.
So it is sort of like the opposite of The Passion in one way.
