3. Put the pet to use if you've got it, I say

and there's an old European adage:

"The outside of a horse is good for the inside of a man." Horse riding is healthy. Much healthier for both horse and human to be put to physical use in traveling as opposed to sitting and turning a wheel in a car.

Then again I'm sure some of our fellow DUers who subscribe to PETA's strangeness will claim this some violation of 'animal rights.' Most horses I've ridden seemed to like the attention IMHO.
