Nearly 300 Catholic professionals, community and business leaders and clergy gathered earlier this week to better educate themselves on stem-cell research and human cloning.
The event, held Aug. 30 at the Cardinal Rigali Center in Shrewsbury, was sponsored by the archdiocesan Respect Life Apostolate (formerly the Archdiocesan Pro-Life Committee) and Missouri Right to Life.
"For the Church, this kind of gathering is fundamental, because our teaching regarding the respect of human life has throughout the centuries looked to the sciences as they have developed over time to understand the mystery of the beginning of human life and to be certain that ... all respect is shown and that life is safeguarded and protected and fostered," said Archbishop Raymond L. Burke.
