PhonebankIf you join us, you'll be making phone calls to folks in California to ensure that they turn in their ballots in the recall election. We'll provide the names, phone numbers and a detailed script -- it's really quite easy.
MoveOn members have pioneered this kind Internet phone bank in the 2002 elections. We found then that a few thousand of us working together were able to make a huge difference. This time, we're asking for at least 5,000 volunteers to make calls for the 'No Recall' campaign. There are hundreds of thousands of absentee ballots waiting to be returned right now. An enormous get-out-the-vote push really could turn the tide against the recall. Legal wrangling over the date of the election has left many with the impression that the election is on hold. But the election is scheduled for the original October 7 date. Part of our mission is simply to let everyone know that the election is on and they still need to send in their ballots.
If you sign up, we'll be asking you to make at least twenty phone calls from your own phone, on your own nickel. If you have a reasonably good long-distance calling plan, we estimate this outreach will cost you between three and ten dollars for an hour's long distance charges for these calls.
