She travels the day after British troops came under attack in Basra where more than 1,000 Scottish soldiers are expected to be deployed in November.
Rose Gentle arrived at Glasgow Airport this morning ahead of her trans-Atlantic flight and a march and rally in Washington on Saturday. Her son Gordon was killed by a roadside bomb in Basra last year, she has been campaigning to bring the troops home ever since.
She said: "Our troops don't know who's their enemies and who's their friends now. The boys don't need to be there anymore, it has been handed over, the Iraqi's have got their Government, it is time they were all back home and I think they should start listening before we get anymore killed."
