14. I'd want to invest in people who invest in themselves

If you start a program yourself, that shows the commitment I would want to invest in. Everyting up front where one can see what the goals are and what you are trying to do.

This is something different - this is an invitation to find out more about what this person wants me to donate my money too. Once you take that first step towards giving money by discussing whatever this micro-investment is, well, it's harder to say no. Once you start investing yourself, it's harder to stop investing yuorself. If for no other reason than at that point you have a relationship with the person trying to get you to invest, and you don't want to dissappoint by putting your money somewhere else.

This is normal salesmanship - it's wierd to think of, but in a way making your potential customers come at least part of the way to you makes them more willing to give you money.

That is sort of the bottom end of what I am talking about.

These are the same people who could revolutionize Internet media efforts.

One of the shows I feature on White Rose, one of the best ones, is about to end for lack of donations to keep it going. A $10K donation would make all the difference. And there are LOTS of producers of really good media who could benefit from investment or donations to allow them to syndicate, advertise, and do their good work as a full time job.

And if I could find a couple of dozen "Angel" investors who wanted to help out this sort of effort, and form them into a syndicate, and solicit grant or investment propositions, then maybe we could make some progress on the stranglehold the Right has on media.

The Right did JUST this 20 years ago, and look at what they accomplished.

26. Actually, Ben, you have EXACTLY the right idea.

The right spent most of the early seventies doing just this: investing in media outlets and local campaigns to get their guys on school boards, city councils, etc, which led to bigger local elections, which led to state elections, ehcih led to national elections..... They couldn't have done it if it weren't for guys like Scaife and Coors who were willing to pony up cash.

There is no equivalent of this effort on the left. People seem to think that just because we're on the right side of the facts and the right side of ethics that we'll eventually come out on top. NO. It doesn't work that way anymore.

All of these supposed "rich liberals" in Hollywood need to start shutting the fuck up about their opinions and start ponying up the dough for the foundations and think tanks that need to be created to make those opinions count..
