With no qualifiers? Why are Democrats always laying on the "morally opposed" bullshit? Why can't they just say, "I support a woman's right to choose whether or not to terminate an unwanted pregnancy. Period."?

(I have heard some -- Kerry, for one)...but I do hear the "I know reasonable people can disagree" or "I know it's a tough moral issue" disclaimer, which I have no problem with.

6. They don't say it because of good Democrats like me

Both my daughters recently had babies, so they showed me the images of the peanut-shaped lump that will be a baby when they were only a few weeks pregnant. There is a heart beat very early on as well.

So, to me, an abortion is a very serious matter. I am morally opposed to an abortion that is not taken very seriously.

That said, I am not for having lawmakers make the decision. One daughter's "peanut" lost its heartbeat at 10 weeks. If she had not had a natural miscarriage, I would have been very upset if she could not have had a legal procedure to remove the dead "peanut."

8. Why assume a Democrat can't be pro-life?

Being morally opposed to abortion doesn't mean you have to support criminalizing it.

One can be morally opposed to abortion and yet recognize that it IS going to happen; government doesn't have a role in it, and that when it happens it should be "Safe, legal and rare."

Another thing to realize is that this is a dead horse. Abortion will remain legal in the US for the foreseeable future. Roberts is not going to overturn Roe. The Republicans would not have appointed him if they thought he might.

Get this through your head: The Republican Party doesn't give a shit about abortion. They masquerade as being anti-choice, but when push comes to shove they go pro-choice every time. Why? Because they know that abortion is a wedge issue that can divide working people against the Democrats. How the fuck do you get a woman in a double-wide to vote Republican when it is completely against her economic interests? Tell her Jesus wants her to.

It is better for the Republican Party that Roe remain law, for as long as it is there, it will draw away single-issue voters into their "Faux pro-life" camp.

9. It's the masquerade I can't stomach, no matter who's performing it.

No one is in favor of abortion in the sense of wishing it on any woman. No one! No one thinks abortion is a great good. Saying you're morally opposed to abortion is like saying you're morally opposed to terminal cancer. It's a waste of breath. Unless you're soooo opposed to abortion that you want to take the right to a legal and safe one away.
