As I am in CD-2, I'll add this...Paul joined the Marine reserve after college, and has stayed in 20+ years (he's now 43.) His law experience and his volunteering (optional) to go to Iraq with his unit led to his being part of a civil affairs unit in and around Fallujah. He was there seven months.
He was urged to run by, among others, a friend of mine who's been close to Paul for more than a decade; this took place right at the airport upon his return from Iraq. Several days were spent discussing it with his family, he then decided to give it a go. He has three children and his wife has, I believe, a doctorate in an education speciality...very attractive family in all ways.
His voice during the campaign was independent and appealed to all of us who are sick of poll-controlled, consultant-handled, MOR politicians. I personally believe that his not being a politician per-se is a strength; he has his own voice and principles. There are persistent rumors that he'll run for the US Senate against Mike DeWine(R-OH). With the rethugs fending off scandals unlimited in Ohio, he probably has a very good shot. He carried the four eastern counties of the District - rural, expected-to-go-rethug, conservative red zone. He reaches across a lot of boundaries.
He may not fit exactly into each and every policy slot some want, but that is much less important to me than his fundamentals. Too many liberals are too doctrinaire, IMHO.
edit - sorry about the weird formatting
