Can anyone tell me what this means in english? EXTERN GECONTROLEERD.
I wanted to buy theese beautiful tomatoes at the grocery but I could'nt tell if the lable was saying that they were genetically engineered or not.

I asked the manager at the store but she did'nt know. I found some web hits when I searched the term, but in Deutch.

Help anyone?

1. Have you tried a translation web page?
There are some that offers translation online with different languages. Just type it in and it will translate in the language of your choosing.

2. I don't know but..
I wouldn't buy them, lol.

It's either deliberately misleading or some screw-up with the lable.

10. I will next trip back.
But I did buy a couple of beautiful heirloom tomatoes. The one, I ate on my sandwich, and the other one I will eat tomorrow in a salad with balsamic dressing and gorgonzola cheese.

Next week I will make bruchetta with the Dutch tomatoes.

11. Mmmm, bruchetta...
When I have really, really great tasting tomatoes my favorite way to eat them is simply with some salt, fresh pepper and a bit of lemon juice.

14. Beautiful Dutch Tomatoes???? The Dutch are the first ones
to sell hard red tennisballs as an edible :puke:

I NEVER buy them even though I love tomatoes. Grew my own this year, five different kinds - now THOSE are some tomatoes!!

15. Really?
I don't remember buying Dutch tomatoes, myself.

Obviously, the best are those you grow yourself! Even when all I had was a tiny "terrace" with little sun, the tomato plant I had in a container produced some of the best tomatoes I ever ate.

18. I grow mine in containers, too. The thing is that all those
industrially produced "fruit" and "vegetables" are full of chemicals and mostly without aroma. Half of the Netherlands is one giant hothouse, and they're quite ingenious. Unfortunately the stuff doesn't taste like much.

My tomatoes were (season is over) SO yummy! And I've made kilos of tomatoe-apple chutney which turned out great, so I'll profit all winter :)

16. This particular breed is called Elite
Online it is described as a tougher tomatoe. I like all kinds of tomatoe textures. Although I do remove the seeds. The tomatoe also has to smell good.

13. Local growing season isn't over yet--why buy imported?
Even here (Seattle) the local tomatos are still coming in; why not buy the fresh ones? A farmstand or farmers' market will probably have super-nice ones for cheap this time of year.

(I confess I feel like a freakin'conquering hero when I can go to a farmstand and get handsful of 5 or 6 different vegetables for like 80¢--but we're poor, so that's a major victory. )

Take advantage of in-season vegetables--they're SO good!

17. I do get alot of fresh stuff at the local farmers market.
It is great to get produce picked that day locally. Flowers and bread too. And it is only 2 blocks away. Small town, everything is 2 blocks away. Except for the next town.

20. Super-deluxe!
LOVE the fresh stuff from the market--it's amazing what a difference it makes when it's picked daily (especially corn & tomatoes!)
