Hi folks, just about to head out to the rally with approximately 500 DU'ers represented on the sign. I had to print them out, but I handwrote the ones that came in after the deadline so I'll try to put up a complete list after the rally -- hopefully w/some good pics.
Freeper trolls
http://www.conservativeunderground.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19203">apparently think this is the most hilarious idea ever. They've even photoshopped what they think the sign is going to look like. They're hysterical over it. To them, I say:
1) No, I am not the witch from kiss.com ;-D
2) To Gina: If you think most people go through life trying not to get arrested, you must not run with a very ambitious crowd. Some of us try to do what's right.
3) To Adam Wood: Yep, it is one biiiig sign.
4) To all: This sign is not meant to inflate numbers, stir passions or influence anyone. This is not a protest sign, though I will be carrying it at a protest. This is a sign of solidarity. This is just a way for people who can't make it, as the sign says "due to disability, illness, astronomical gas prices (thanks Dubya) or other situations," to feel that they are present in some way.
It's no different than a preacher praying for those who are sick in church. It's no different than a toast at a wedding where the bride and groom wish their grandparents or sick uncle could be there. It's no different than leaving a note in the Wailing Wall with your name and your wish. Or putting flowers on a gravestone. It's about feeling you were present with people you care for.
The purpose of this sign is NOT to get media. I'm doing it as a thank you to all the people all over the country and world who do so much more. If you can't understand that-- if something with no political purpose is beyond you-- well... then yuk it up. It makes no difference to me or the 500 people I'll be representing. I'm glad I amuse you at least.
That's all. See y'all at the rally!
