Did any MSM report the AMTRACK & METRO stoppages 9/24?

Seems relevant to reporting the numbers in DC yesterday. Also, relevant to the issue of suppression of dissent.

They didn't cover the DC Metro problems. Who knows what's true these days, although the fact that Amtrak has equipment problems is not new.

just an unfortunate coincidence, y'know. :sarcasm: This is the first I'd heard of a Metro outage (I'm at Mom's in NJ at present). Amtrak AND Metro on the same day? :tinfoilhat:

Actually said that there would have many more people at the rally if there hadn't been disruptions in service due to Metro doing "necessary" track work on the Blue and Yellow lines.

WASHINGTON - Some people who were headed to D.C. for Saturday's anti-war demonstration never made it or were late because of transportation problems.

A dozen Amtrak trains between New York and Washington were disrupted and one was canceled because of electrical problems. Organizers tell The Washington Post that affected the travel plans of at least hundreds and possibly more than 1,000 protesters.

Others trying to get downtown on Metro ran into delays because of track repairs oon the Blue and Yellow lines.

A Metro spokesman says the agency discussed whether to go ahead with the work despite the big crowds expected this weekend. But officials decided it was important to get the work done so other scheduled repairs could be completed later this fall.

Capitol police gave a loose estimate of 150,000—still a heap larger than the 4,000 or so who turned out for the Pentagon’s pro-war “Freedom Walk” on 9-11.

Organizers were exuberant about the turnout, which they said exceeded expectations and marked a “reenergizing” of the antiwar movement. The crowd might have been even bigger but for an electrical outage on the Amtrak line that wiped out train service all morning along the Eastern seaboard, stranding hundreds of protesters on their way here.

When the 6 a.m. Amtrak train pulled out of New York's Pennsylvania Station yesterday and then turned around and went back instead of going to Washington, one thought ran through the minds of many antiwar demonstrators aboard: It was Karl Rove's fault.

"This has Rove's fingerprints all over it," passenger Julie Finch said of President Bush's top White House political strategist, who is often a target of Bush opponents. "He's trying to keep people from showing up to protest the war in Iraq."
