I haven't heard a single reporter of any stripe who isn't outraged that Miller was incarcerated for not giving up a source to a story that she never wrote. They'll never change their minds on that because even more than protecting Republicanism, American journalism protects itself. They hold what's left of their disgrace of a profession (and coincidentally, by extension themselves) in supernaturally high regard. No matter how deeply they have betrayed everything it was supposed to stand for.

This is different than just protecting a source - our country's security was compromised because of this information.

I'm for protecting the press 100%, but this isn't a case of simply protecting a source. This woman is working in concert with the whole Bush Mafia for ends of personal gain. When you look closer and see all the facts, it gets really suspect. The leak to her was also to protect Karl Rove, btw...

So now you've heard from a journalist that isn't outraged about Miller's incarceration.

I even worked at a huge daily Republican newspaper, too. How bout that?

It would be great to see you on TV debating another journalist about this. There would be no shortage of opposing journos ready to defend Miller. Probably why you'd never get the opportunity. And if you did you'd probably be quietly blackballed from then on.

Just to clarify, I don't really hold journalists in contempt for this episode. It's natural to protect your own and indeed the right of a free press is nothing to fool with even a little bit.

It's everything else that journalism has become over the past two decades that I hold in contempt. They are no longer looking out for regular people. They are completely supportive of the harsh shift righward in this country, in fact, they have enabled it when they should have been doing just the opposite. Simply by doing their jobs. American journalism has betrayed this country along with their profession at a wholesale level.
