A thought about D-day...

I was just flicking through the channels and saw CNN's coverage briefly, and they showed a picture of a gravesite with American and French flags.

Now what I'm curious about...why don't the German troops who died that day get any recognition? A lot of them were just doing what they had been trained to do (much like the GIs in Iraq), and I'm sure their deaths had a great impact on their families back home. Now I understand that the victors get to write the history. But still, after 60 odd years of humans killing each other, have we forgotten that many Germans made the ultimate sacrifice (from their point of view) that day?

1. The D-Day commemorates the beginning of the Allied Victory

And the liberation of France.

A major gesture was offered by France: this year is the first time that a German Chancellor was invited - just a short time ago a Normandy Hotel flying the German tricolor led to a major uproar.


Germany has a National Day of Mourning in November, commemorating all dead of the two World Wars.

3. Yeah obviously I don't mean the Nazi leaders...

But I mean, shouldn't this day that celebrates the day when the Allies began to depose of this horrible atrocity, shouldn't it have room to remember that in the stupidity that is war, families on both sides lose loved ones?
