What purpose does it serve? Is the very subject line so awful for some that it must be hid?
If the subject line bothers you, why not just avoid opening it?
No flamer, just wondering why this feature would be utlized.

1. I'm not quite sure I get it either. |

There are lots of threads I either don't open or don't post in for any number of reasons. Don't understand why everyone else can't do the same.
There are a few individuals I've considered putting on ignore, although I haven't yet. I generally just don't respond to them, as if I have them on ignore already.

2. I hide threads when I can tell by the title |
|
that if I go into them I will just be getting into a flame war. Sure I could just not click on it, but if I've already decided I don't want to, there is no point in having it keep showing up in the list. This makes it easier to find the threads I am interested in.
