Sousaphiles! What's your favorite Sousa march?
Edited on Sat Jun-26-04 04:49 PM by JonathanChance
Of course, being a python fan The Liberty Bell is up there, but my all time favorite is Forward Wiscosnin Forever. I like the incorporation of polka type themes.

6. "The Black Horse March"
The third strain was one of the prettiest melodies Sousa ever wrote. Nice break from the pomp and martiality of the other marches.

7. Did he do "This Is My Country"?
Because that's my favorite march. Otherwise, I'll pick Stars Stripes Forever.

8. A favorite out of 136 Sousa marches?
I've performed in marching band about a dozen or so. But my personal favorites were King Cotton, it had an amusing bass line I loved to play on bass instruments, and The Fairest of the Fair.

For those curious about all 136, found this website: The MIDI clips are MIDI not performer music.

Be kind to your web-footed friends
For a duck may be some-body's mother
Be kind to your friends in the swanp
For the weather there is dahmYou may think that this is the end,
Well it is!

10. NUMBER 18!
Damned if I remember the title, though. When I was in the Air Force Band, we had to memorize about 30 marches. The first 20 were Sousa. We saved time by referring to them by number.

I wish I'd played the sousaphone. They seemed to only have to memorize oom pah or oom pah pah.

I played the hell out of it in High School Marching Band.

Edit: I'm mad at my Band Director for never choosing me to play piccolo on The Stars and Stripes. :P
