Well... the winds are picking up
here in Austin, pretty heavy.

I don't expect any rain, it's just amazing to me that something like this could hit us from so far away... simply amazing!!!

2. just found the thread.
I've been talking to a friend in Arlington. She's complaining about the gas lines and shortages(also about some food shortages in a few stores).

Good luck to you.

4. I thought it sounded like you needed a post
from someone not so near to the area.

Keep your chin up-it'll all be over soon.

I'm just wringing my hands over here about the gulf coast, we have property there and family. They are all safe... but it's hard not to think about it!

Thank you...really... thank you for being so sweet! :)

16. I care! I just logged on for a minute tonight...
Edited on Fri Sep-23-05 08:40 PM by southlandshari
...and saw this thread. You'll get more than wind, no doubt. I live more than 150 miles in from the gulf coast in Alabama, but when hurricanes hit the Florida panhandle/Alabama/Mississippi coast, we have terrible weather - torrential rain, heavy and damaging wind and tornados. We usually lose power for 1-3 days. We even did with Dennis, and that storm came ashore with a whimper instead of the expected bang a few months ago.

Hold on, Texasgal, could be an interesting ride for you. Got some candles and a good book? The nights aren't so bad - the days without power stretch out to the point at which every minute feels like an hour!

:hi:

On edit - I totally understand that "weird" feeling you are describing as the winds start to come in. Even when you know you aren't in the direct path of a hurricane, when it is coming ashore close enough for you to physcially feel its effects, it can be unnerving. You're worried about others, but if you're honest, kind of pacing your own floor wondering how much of it will be knocking on your windows in the wee hours of the night. It is weird. But ask any DUer from central Alabama or Mississippi - they've all felt it, too. The wind is eerie.

...and I used to keep a record of the Top 40 every week in a notebook...

and when I went away to summer camp...

I begged my mom to do it for me. And she did.

8. I just came in a few minutes ago
After watching the trees outside sway, I decided to check out the wind for myself. She hasn't even hit land yet and we can already feel her from Austin. I sat outside and thought about my fellow Texans stuck on the highway hundreds of miles south of me. I know they can feel the winds too. Must be frightening.

10. It feels like I'm miles away from the coast
a steady warm wind...too hard to call a breeze. But everything is so quiet. It's unsettling to feel something off when everything looks and sounds the same.

13. I'm staying the weekend in Greenville, TX
about 50 miles east of Dallas, and we've notice the wind picking up as well. It's a nice night out, so we invited some friends over for a nice BBQ and some drinking fun.

We are just amazed at this storm as you :)

Please, everyone south of us, be safe. I am praying for everyone's safety
