A blind man rescued his next-door neighbor late Monday night from her burning Montgomery County home, according to a report by KHIOU-TV.
The home, located in the 13000 block of Tommy Smith Road in Grangerland, was completely destroyed but its 84-year-old resident was able to get out safely, thanks to Jim Sherman.
Sherman and his neighbor, who is also legally blind, had been using a baby monitor so he could hear when she needed help. Overnight, he heard something that caught his attention, KHOU reported.
"I could hear the fire, the crackling wood," Sherman told KHOU. "She was right there in the area by the front door, so I took a hold of her and ushered her outside."
Firefighters were able to retrieve three newborn kittens and revive them with CPR, KHOU reported.
